Caring for Women and Babies in Liverpool

by Mike Royden

Original back cover text;

Early in 1995, the new Liverpool Women's Hospital opened in Liverpool 8. It replaced the Liverpool Maternity Hospital in Oxford Street, the Women's Hospital in Catharine Street, and the Mill Road Maternity Hospital. It also incorporated the Department of Reproductive Medicine from the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and the University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

To mark the opening of the new hospital and the closure of its famous predecessors, the Liverpool Women's Hospital Trust invited Merseyside historian and writer, Michael Royden to tell the remarkable story of how over two centuries Liverpool had cared for its women and babies - and in doing so to recount the history of the city's much-loved hospitals.

The earlier volume - Mill Road - The People's Hospital - was published in 1993.
